چکیده

Abstract Ecological niche modelling provides a useful tool to measure properties such as breadth, overlap and conservatism among genetic lineages, with relevant implications for conservation. The Mediterranean pond turtle Mauremys leprosa occurs on both sides of the Strait Gibraltar over most Iberia Maghreb Region north-western Africa, where it shows complex structure result Pleistocene climatic oscillations particular geographical features this region. We analyzed climate lineages sublineages , based confirmed records across known range species. also compared accuracy environmental models obtained by splitting two into subunits lumping lineages. Results revealed an overall between main sublineages, indicating no relationship variation divergence. Likewise, extensive suitability However, some ecological differentiation sublineage pairs, in involving whose occurrence corresponds morphotype – Sahara blue-eyed which occupies very isolated habitats along Draa basin Morocco. These populations are currently threatened fragmentation habitats, drought water salinization. This study will help assessing more effectively impacts ongoing change that local human activities likely increase southernmost limit its distribution.

Modeling Current and Future Potential Distributions of Caspian Pond Turtle (Mauremys caspica) under Climate Change Scenarios

Although turtles are the most threatened taxonomic group within the reptile class, we have a very limited understanding of how turtles respond to climate change. Here, we evaluated the effects of climate changes on the geographical distribution of Caspian pond turtle (Mauremys caspica). We used an ensemble approach by combining six species distribution models including artificial neural network...

Geographical structuring of genetic diversity across the whole distribution range of Narcissus longispathus, a habitat-specialist, Mediterranean narrow endemic.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS High mountain ranges of the Mediterranean Basin harbour a large number of narrowly endemic plants. In this study an investigation is made of the levels and partitioning of genetic diversity in Narcissus longispathus, a narrow endemic of south-eastern Spanish mountains characterized by a naturally fragmented distribution due to extreme specialization on a rare habitat type. B...

Formation of cartilage in the heart of the Spanish terrapin, Mauremys leprosa (Reptilia, Chelonia).

Cartilaginous deposits are regularly present in the heart of several reptilian, avian, and mammalian species. The formation of these extraskeletal cartilages has been studied in birds and mammals, but not in reptiles. The aim here was to elucidate this question in the Spanish terrapin. Hearts from 23 embryos belonging to Yntema (1968) developmental stages 17 to 26 and eight terrapins age 3 mont...
